FIRST AND SECOND STAGE APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR AWARDS
In line with competence based assessment in the Electrical SVQ, SECTT is continuing to promote training and excellence in the Electrical Contracting industry by organising Apprentice of the Year competitions for both 1st and 2nd Stage apprentices.
The finalists had already been through a rigorous assessment of both practical skills and theoretical knowledge in each of their area competitions. The interview panel assessed the area winners and named the National Apprentice of the Year for both 1st and 2nd Stage.
The winners received a Gold Medal, with Silver and Bronze awarded respectively to the runners up.
The six candidates were interviewed by the panel comprising of Fiona Harper, Secretary of the SJIB, John Noble, Employer Representative and member of the SJIB Board Grading Committee and Rab Sherry, Unite (AMICUS Section) Representative, member of the SJIB Board and SECTT Trustee. Though the panel found it very difficult to decide on the winning order due to such high standards attained, the judgement was as follows:
Martin Kinmond: Alliance Electrical Services Ltd, Craichie.
Niall Barber: Argyll Electrical Services Ltd, Helensburgh.
Michael Cunnea: Glengaia Ltd, Dunfermline.
Richard Sagar: Eden Electrics Ltd, Langholm.
Scott Morgan: Alexander Duthie & Sons, Peterhead.
Alan Hood: D Hood Electrical Contractor, Haddington.
Alan Ross, Chief Executive of SECTT, presented the awards. ![]()
