How to apply
The electrical apprenticeship is a Modern Apprenticeship designed to ensure that all apprentices are trained to the standards set by the industry in the United Kingdom. It is based on the values of the traditional apprenticeship with all apprentices being employed by electrical contractors while they learn the skills of their craft.
What's Involved
As an apprentice you will be employed throughout your training, both at college and on site.
The training is divided into three stages each of which must be satisfactorily completed before progressing to the next stage.
Stages
Stage 1
- Approximately 1 Year
- 17 weeks at college on block release then applying these skills and gaining practical experience on site.
Stage 2
- Approximately 1 Year
- 11 weeks at college on block or day release then applying these skills and gaining further practical experience on site.
Stage 3
- A Minimum of 1 Year
- 1 week full time at college covering Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations at the end of your 3rd year.
- Throughout all the stages the apprentices will record the work that they have completed for their employer in a Log Book.
- After satisfactorily completing all the required entries in the Log Book, apprentices undertake a two-day assessment of their knowledge and skills at an industry-approved assessment centre.
- Due to the hazardous nature of working with electricity, emphasis is placed on Health and Safety at all stages of the training.
